    SAINT MAXIMILIAN MARIA KOLBE "SMILING FRIAR"

    Born Raymond Kolbe in Zdunska Wola, Poland on January 8, 1894. As a young adult seminarian in while in Rome, he founded the Militia of the Immaculata at the Franciscan House of Studies on October 16, 1917. Six months later he would be ordain a Catholic Priest on April 28, 1918. He spent his life spreading deep devotion to Mary Immaculate which would flourish into the largest religious community of 700 men living, studying and working for her cause. His love for the Immaculata would even him to the Orient where he would found his second City of the Immaculata, which he would call the Garden. During the Second World War he would be arrested by the Nazis as a political prisoner and he was shipped by cart to Auschwitz. He became greatly know for his heroic deed of offering to take the place of a condemned prisoner. He was sent to the starvation bunker where he spent nearly two weeks and then put to death by an ejection of carbolic acid on August 14, 1941. Holy Mother Church would canonized Fr. Kolbe as the "MARTYR OF CHARITY" and is a great intercessor for this afflicted with addictions, eating disorders, broken families, journalist, pro-life & wounds causes by abortion.
